Please Let Me Find A Discount Sideboard

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

That someone mentioned above would be me. I am on the market for a sideboard but I don’t really have the money for it. I know, I’ve tried the whole "no sideboard" thing but I can’t see that working out. My couch seems so bare without a buffet cabinet or sideboard sitting behind it. This often forgotten but still important furniture piece has the ability to tie your whole room together.

Now the only thing I need to find is a discount sideboard to assuage my fears of not having my living room dressed to the nines. I recently decided, in my desparate need for a sideboard, that I can sacrifice another dining room furniture piece that I don’t need as much. It was a hard decision that took almost three days because it’s like making the difficult choice of giving up a child but I ultimately deemed my wooden bench negligible in the larger scheme of things.

Later, as I was surfing the Internet, I stumbled upon a web site that sells discount sideboards for more than half their original retail price. eBuffet Tables offers a ton of excellent quality sideboards that don’t cost a month’s worth of pay. With that much of a price slash, I can still keep my antique-crafted bench and let me tell you, I am very relieved! Now I can have both my discount sideboard and my bench.

Mama Needs a New China Hutch

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Many people in the neighborhood know me as "The Collectibles Lady". No, that doesn’t mean that I am some precious commodity that sells for an arm and a leg on eBay. Although I wish that were the case sometimes. No, they call me that because I tend to collect whatever I fancy and put them everywhere from the buffet cabinets to the living room tables. There are the rock collectors and the stamp collectors but I really like to build a wide assortment of anything that strikes me as something I need to keep. Eventually, I will acquire more objects like it and create an assemblage of the same things. I know it sounds crazy but there is a reason. As a baby boomer, I loved my childhood in the 1950s and everything that was representative of that time. The memorabilia that I collect tend to be from that era only and having it makes me feel happy.

Currently, I house all of my Marilyn Monroe figurines, a couple of miniature 10-inch Texaco gas pumps as well as other souvenirs in my china hutch with glass doors. It has two shelves that span across the length of the two doors but lately, I’ve been noticing that even my James Dean memorabilia can’t fit in the allotted space. I can’t allow Jimmy to be pushed to the wayside! Although I love this china hutch to death and it has served me well over the years, I can’t bare to see my favorite 50s film stars fall over and break. This is why I have decided to search for a new china hutch. There are many oversized ones that would be able to keep all of my beloved effects in but I found one special piece of buffet furniture with lights within the shelves to shine bright on my ceramic figurines. The best thing about it is that it was made in the 50s that would be the perfect size and the perfect genre! In fact, it would kind of be a collectible in itself, wouldn’t it?

A Contemporary Buffet Table for A New Address

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Equipped with our new architecture and design jobs, my boyfriend and I have finally been able to move to a brand new apartment on the Upper East Side in Manhattan. It’s close to both of our studios and has a great view of the neighborhood. In furnishing our home, we both decided that we wanted a similar minimalist aesthetic.

Many people often forget the buffet table but I knew that when we moved into our new digs, I would invest in a nice contemporary buffet table. For me, as a designer, it would be much less about function than it would be about form. I know that the buffet table can be a haven for all those things that you just don’t know where to put. They use this space to act as a sort of orphanage for all those fixtures around the house that are unique but also have no designated place.

Instead, I want my buffet to act as a sort of artistic focal point. This is why purchasing a contemporary buffet table is so important to me. Not only do I want it to basically go along with the general theme of my other furniture pieces but I want it to be able to stand on its own as well. I want people to walk in and appreciate its sleek elegance while admiring its clean glistening palette of light walnut finish. I’m going out to buy my contemporay buffet table today and my boyfriend and I have already agreed upon which one we’re likely to get. With an architect and designer in the house to pick out new hues and hutches, you won’t doubt that it will be the best and most beautiful make.

Thank You Very Much Kitchen Hutch

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

I never knew that kitchen hutches could make such a difference to the kitchen space until I got my own. Used primarily as a valuable place of storage, kitchen hutches are like large stationary cabinets that you put in your kitchen. When you buy one of these pieces, you should be aware that you are purchasing a relatively permanent fixutre in your home and in doing so, your choice should be made wisely. Kitchen hutches are designed to be sturdy but they can also be heavy and are difficult to relocate to another part of your room.

I use my kitchen hutch to store all the knick knacks that don’t quite have a place in the kitchen drawers or cupboards. I also use my hutch as a sort of oversized display case for all the relics and souvenirs from my travels. When I went to Russia, I bought beautiful ceramic nesting dolls and they can now be seen through the glass doors above the cabinets on my traditional buffet.

Although the kitchen hutch may seem like a regular furniture piece, for me, it is a sort of symbol of my adulthood. Being able to afford a real home is a badge of independence, and kitchen hutches are motifs for those luxury items that you couldn’t buy when you were a single college grad living in a two-bedroom apartment. Now that you have your two-story abode, complete with its white picket fence, you can have the things that just didn’t seem reasonable to have as a poor student but are now possible, like buffet furniture and fancy dining room tables.

Special Buffet Tables For My Wedding

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

For our wedding this past weekend, my new husband and I had a relatively intimate and memorable affair with all of our closest loved ones. Champions of the do-it-yourself school of thought, we decorated everything by ourselves and my mother and brother cooked the whole wedding menu. Beyond just saving us countless dollars, we also really enjoyed it. By far, the crowd favorite was the way in which we set our buffet tables. I had so many friends come up to me afterwards and say, "Your buffet tables were absolutely gorgeous! How did you do it?"

Although I never thought I would be giving lessons on how to set buffet tables, there I was–in a room full of women–revealing all my secrets. I told them that we tried to giveour wedding a natural feeling with nothing being too ostentatious or too contrived. We were able to achieve a quaint humility and charm with the pieces we added. I had gone out earlier in the month to purchase the quality dinnerware and trays we would eventually use and it took me only three days to find all that I needed. I didn’t go to the neighborhood Crate and Barrel; instead, I scoured various yard and estate sales for unique antique-y pieces. I generally tried to keep with a color theme but none of the plates or glasses had to be exactly the same. I hand-made all of the place cards that were quotes from both my husband and I on the topic of love and placed them throughout the buffets.

As for the food, we tried to showcase their beauty by adding varying height to certain plates. For example, by putting mother’s famous shrimp etouffee above the corn bread, we not only added a visual appeal to the buffet table but we also made it more practical for people who wanted easier access to more helpings of the cornbread. Another buffet table or sideboard trick to make your food look more attractive is to overfill your platters. Even if your guests don’t end up finishing it, it is always nice to have your guests able to eat to their heart’s content without worrying about eating too much of it.

Wipe Off All Your Worries from the Buffet Table

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

So you want to buy a buffet table. You’re absolutely sure that this is the one you want–THE one that will steal your heart away from all the other wonderful buffet tables that are available. What happens when you can’t afford this piece of furniture? I ask this because you know that this is and will perhaps always be an issue.

If you shop at eBuffet.com, like I have done in the past since I am a veteran of the buffet table variety, this guilt will melt away in an instant when you see their clearance section. I mean, seriously. Do you want us, the hungry, hungry mass of consumers, to steal your choice buffet tables and buffet hutches away and pay very little for it? According to a friendly customer rep the answer is, "Yes. Yes, we do."

I think the biggest bargain I’ve seen so far is a Black Bowed Buffet Cabinet that was $600 off the retail price. It was precisely in the size and style I wanted so I was lucky but even if you can’t find the buffet table flashy enough for your ostentatious desires, there are many others that will serve the same purpose and may be better than you imagined. There’s no harm in trying, I say. Try to contain yourself when you see the buffet cabinet or table you want for half the price. It is exciting and you may risk a coronary attack so when I say "wipe off all your worries from the buffet table", I mean it.

The Day My Brother Fell On a Sideboard

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

My childhood was just full of amazingness and craziness all wrapped up in one silly package. The other day, as I was getting coffee with my older brother and we were talking about the good ol’ days when we all were young and foolish. Indeed, for him, I emphasized the latter quality. WWF–for those Philistines who are oh-so ignorant to this phenomenon that plagued a whole demographic–stood for the World Wrestling Federation and also once stood for my brother’s crushed dreams, and our crushed buffet furniture!

When he was 13, making me about 10 years old, he and his friends would watch the newest installment of the WWF matches. On this particular day, Hulk Hogan and Randy "The Macho Man" Savage were set to "square off" in their "fight". Within the first few minutes, the tanned Hogan put The Macho Man into a choke-hold and slammed him into a large fold-out table. The crowd cheered. My brother knocked on the living room table with his fist in excitement.

My brother and his gang of scrawny friends immediately found inspiration during the match and in between when the commercials were running, they would wildly throw each other around using the pillows as cushions. Again, thirteen year olds. Well, unfortunately for them, they failed to set up perimeters of the ring. Instead, the whole house was to be used as a ring. That’s when I heard a loud "THWAP!". Turns out, someone had thrown my brother onto our Cherry Finished Sideboard thinking that it would fold like the table on TV but alas, this sideboard was much too sturdy. He came out OK; he just had to lie on his back for a week-straight and live to tell the embarassing story or at least sit there mortified while I re-told the story of the day my brother fell on a sideboard.

China Buffet Hutches for the Cool Collector

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

The thing I enjoy most about china buffet hutches is that they they have the ability to instantly add that luminescence to any dining room. When I got married, I knew that the only furniture item I was dying for was a china buffet hutch so that I could keep and proudly display my keepsake wedding plates as well as various other collectibles. The glass panels make me feel like I’m looking into a beautiful and rare museum exhibit.

I bought my china buffet hutch from eBuffet.com and it is able to cater to all of my particular dining room needs in addition to my collectors’ side. In fact, it is large enough, with its four drawers and three shelves, to house all of my ceramic roosters. When my friends come over and look at my hutch, they first comment on my comemorative wedding dishes and then they immediately ask me why I collect rooster figurines. Honestly, I can’t really explain it myself other than the fact that I used to live on a farm and the loud but funny roosters were such a big part of my childhood. It must be nostalgia, right?

I’m really happy I purchased my china cabinet from eBuffet.com at the affordable price they set it as because now I can buy more ceramic roosters to round out my never-ending collection!

Antique Buffet Cabinets for Half the Antique Price

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

I moved into a Victorian-era home in San Francisco recently and wanted to keep with the theme of the times so I am trying to buy all antique-inspired furniture. Everything from Chinese antiques to European ones, I want to get my grubby hands on. Or shall I say, pristine Victorian-gloved hands? The only downfall of true antiques, like dining room tables and buffet cabinets is that because they are aged, their quality is often not as good as it originally was. Because of this, you will end up spending extra dollars on restoration and maintenance.

I decided that although some of my antique furniture can be real and authentic, I couldn’t afford to dress my whole house in these kinds of pieces. This is why I went to eBuffet.com to purchase a buffet cabinet and sideboard. They have a whole section dedicated to discount antique buffets with nearly 50 different varieties to choose from. One of my favorites was the "Antique White Wooden Buffet Cabinet".

The white wooden buffet cabinet replica is an absolute stunning piece hand-painted with elegant flowers and columns. Its durable hardwood has been properly dried to prevent cracking and warping is finished in an antique white. The clean finish allows the markings and grain variation to be exhibited in the best light possible. Perhaps the part I adore about it most is the hand carvings and trimmings. I can’t wait to run my hands across the raised accents and literally feel the fancy on my fingers. All in all, i think my antique sideboard furniture purchase was a wise one and it saved me almost 500 dollars!

How to Set The Perfect Buffet Table for a Dinner Party

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

My husband and I hosted a rather successful dinner party last night where everything went perfectly, except for the unnamed crazy male friend who got a little more than tipsy. Besides this minor detail, the biggest hit that night was the fully stocked buffet table and all the trimmings. People wre constantly asking me how I dressed my buffet table to suit so many guests.

The first thing you should know is the amount of people you are accomodating. If you know this number, you can prepare accordingly. With bigger parties, you will naturally have more people to serve and should create duplicates of everything and put them at either end so that people don’t have to reach around the table to get what they want. Also, if you want to go for ultimate class, use a wrinkle-free white linen tablecloth with linen napkin cloths. For optimal organization, roll your silverware settings in some napkin cloths and place them in a wicker basket on your buffet. Then stack a group of dishes of varying heights so that guests can easily serve themselves.

In terms of the food, you should put out small bowls of appetizers to start with. Try healthy alternatives like olives or crudites. For the main dish, you want to prepare a vegetarian variety in addition to a meat-lover’s plate because you are trying to feed as many people as your buffet sideboard can hold so allow as many options as possible. Take advantage of the size of your table by putting cold dishes like salad between the main course. Finally, you can add some garnish to your buffet table. Depending on the season and the occasion, you can buy fake foliage to put in the center (during Thanksgiving, you would put a cornicopia) or some simple vases with flowers in them. The little touches are what add the element of sophistication to your buffet.
